Below is a picture of the google earth view from where I did my environmental sculpture.

Creating

Challenges

MATERIALS: one blossoming peach flower, bunches of multicolor leaves from all different trees and bushes and some acorns.

When creating this sculpture I was very Frustrated because the day I was able to do it the weather was very cold and very windy which made this very challenging. To overcome the cold I wore lots of warm clothes and because of the wind I had a friend hold a blanket up to shield me and my sculpture from blowing away! I also found it challenging to find good leaves that were not too badly torn or had holes eaten in them, in order to over come that is just took some extra searching!
My Process
When I began thinking about what to create I thought about how hard it is too loose things, just as the trees are loosing their leaves it is for a better purpose. I think as humans we sometimes can't see the purpose as of why we loose the things we do. So when I set out to make my sculpture I had a loss in mind, but I also am aware that there is a bigger much more beautiful picture being painted for me and I am not in control- just as the trees loose the leaves as the seasons change we humans loose things as our life seasons change- they don't control the seasons and neither do we! When I found the amazing bloom on the peach tree infront of my house I knew it was going to be central to what ever I made- that was my starting point. From there I just created I looked at my materials and I placed them and moved them around until it felt right to me- and that is how I ended up with a circular shape with all naturally dead things- except the flower. I loved how I felt when I looked at this because I felt as if this was a representation of life- when all else is failing somehow something good- or new will come of it.
MUSIC

to the right is a close up drawing of two of my materials I used in this sculpture, I am not the best artist, however I felt that I was able to highlight some detail that is otherwise not noticed.

CLASS PROJECTS

In class this week we did something very similar, we worked in groups and used found elements in nature to create our own miniature sculptures! I provided a picture of mine! We chose to use a weaving technique to put this together.
